Technology can broadly refer to any practical application of scientific concepts but in this course, we will focus on computing technology and particularly on common software. We'll explore how computers will be useful to you during high school and offer suggestions on using Garfield computers, the Internet and common office software. We strongly encourage you to try things out on your own and ask lots of questions during our time together — it's the best way to make sure you learn what you want and need to!
The resources we will be using and the assignments we will be working on in this class will all be computer-based. This website is the place for you to go to figure out what you need to do and get hints on how to do it. Plus, since everything you need is online, you can work at home if you need to or refer back to older resources to study and refresh your memory.
We hope that this course will start making you comfortable and proficient in using computers to increase the quality of your schoolwork. We also want you to leave this course feeling empowered to learn about and experiment with computers on your own.
By the end of the course, you will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Name files in a logical way and store them in a predictable location
- Turn in documents to your instructor
- Use styles and templates to consistently format Word documents
- Use websites to correctly format bibliographies according to MLA or APA standards
- Find information on the Internet
- Find your grades and course information on the Source
- Use master slides to consistently format PowerPoint presentations
